More spouses can now apply for an open work permit

On May 8, 2019, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), announces that spouses of skilled workers, who came to Canada under the Atlantic Immigration Pilot as food and beverage servers or long-haul truck drivers, will have an opportunity to apply for an open work permit. This change supports the goal of the program to retain newcomers in the Atlantic region. Earlier, only the spouses of those in high-skilled positions, such as managers, medical doctors or architects, were able to apply for an open work permit. The ability to immediately access the labour market in the Atlantic provinces is critical to keep foreign workers in the province after they obtain the Permanent Residency. #AIPP, #Atlantic_pilot, #Open_Work_Permit, #IRCC
